Technique, Technology And Education

Recent advances in technique, technology and education have made the role of professional lighting designers critical to the success of architectural and landscape lighting projects.

TECHNIQUE
Illumination design has become a creative extension of architecture - one in which lighting is a silent design partner, improving visibility and complimenting form, shape, and color. The medium of light is "invisible" until it strikes an object. It is the creation and implementation of these invisible patterns of light that gives the lighting "artist" an advantage over other design disciplines. Talent, experience, and technique are used to create a visual environment to compliment and amplify the project goals.

TECHNOLOGY
New developments in lamp and luminaire technologies are being introduced into the marketplace continually. To provide proper design solutions, professional lighting designers must attend national trade shows and review product information and samples from hundreds of manufacturers. Since lighting design professionals do not manufacture, sell or install equipment, their clients receive designs that are based on expertise and free from conflicts of interest.

EDUCATION
Knowledge of the technique and technology of lighting design is essential in creating outstanding lighting solutions. To advance the profession and provide the best possible service to their clients, lighting professionals are involved in various forms of continuing education, including reading and contributing articles to trade publications

FIND A LIGHTING DESIGNER : SEARCH HELP

IALD’s Find a Lighting Designer feature includes four search options:

  • Country and Project Type can be searched using the drop-down menus.
  • To search by City, simply type in the city you are interested in. The results will first list lighting designers located in that city. The search will then list any designer that has referenced that city in their profile or project list.
  • To search by keyword, type in any word or phrase of interest (example: designer’s name, company name, project name, zip code). The search will yield any profiles that include the keyword you’ve used, or will yield no results if your keyword is not found exactly as entered.

You can use one field or a combination of fields to locate the desired lighting designer. If you are having trouble with the search, or need further assistance, please contact IALD at iald@iald.org or by calling +1 312 527 3677.
